Turnout matters more than anything else at the final vote on Dec 3rd. Put it in your calendar now.
We are our own best weapons against the zoning change. To win the final vote on 12/3, we must show up in numbers that they can’t ignore.
Here are some ideas to help get people to show up 12/3 (check back at hellodeerfieldbeach.com in case the city changes the date)
- Yard signs are going up again next week. Come get a sign and flyers for your next garage sale!
- Tell people you love about the danger that changing the zoning would bring. This is about safety, not about an ugly vacant lot. The most recent neighborhood fatality was earlier this year when our neighbor Dana was crossing US1 by NE 2nd St. Mr. Blanton was killed on Federal Highway when he went through the windshield of a Cadillac on his way home.
- We need to get the word out in Spanish
- and in Portuguese!
- Schedule a meeting with Commissioner Hudak. He represents everyone affected by the zoning change. His vote matters most. Michael E. Hudak City Commissioner – District 1 Email: mhudak@deerfield-beach.com Office: 954-480-4221 Cell: 954-728-5831 FAX: 954-480-4268
Send him a text, email, letter, fax, or call. Tell him your concerns. Ask him if he votes for his people or for big developers.
- Hate conversations? Send a fax through rapidfaxcom.
- Share the flyers. Response is phenomenal, people do not want this.
- Stand with a sign at Dunkin or School pickup!
- Plan a 12/3 Parking lot Pizza Party- tailgate some food so to gather and eat with friends before we go in. Like a classic DBES Trunk or Treat before the big meeting.
- Make a Facebook group and plan attendance with friends & neighbors.
- Post frequently on social media (Facebook, Snapchat, Next Door, Ring…). Like and respond to keep them at the tops of people’s feeds. Tag friends and TAG THE CITY.
- Spread the word at school functions, play dates, church, the bar, running club, bike club, the Elks club…
- Talk to the media!
- Hate being social? That’s great news! Log on 12/3 via Zoom, and send Commissioner Hudak a fax or an email. You don’t have to talk to make a noise.
- Our City Commission should team up *with the people* against overdevelopment. Commissioner Michael Hudak needs to hear it from his whole constituency since he might not be psychic. Encourage others to contact him too.
This could be the perfect, non-political topic to bring up at Thanksgiving!
