The Zoning Change Would Allow These Apartments to Introduce Risk to Vehicle and Pedestrian Safety
Attention if you live in the NW quadrant by Hillsboro Boulevard and Federal Highway:
About the potential zoning change that would permit a projects such as the AXIS rental complex development; at a meeting yesterday with Mayor Bill Ganz and the city attorney, they asked if our neighborhood would be willing to accept residential development at the 201, 221, 231, and 299 Federal Highway property with a density greater than RM25 but less than the proposed 237 units **and what conditions we would impose**.
Certain incentives that the developer talked about may still be on the table as required conditions: as landscaping, underground utility lines, no dog park, lower height, etc. ***What are the top three or four things that are most important to you and your family? It’s important to let me know so we can share this with the mayor.
The developer is claiming if he doesn't get an approval he will move development forward under the Live Local Act, which according to the developer, he can build nearly 250 units.
As it stands now the City is claiming he can only build about 150 units under the LLA.
So there is a risk not compromising if the developer challenges the City's position in court and loses.
Please email me your thoughts on these alternatives ASAP- we need to discuss these options with our attorney before the Wednesday meeting.
Stefan and I are willing to collaborate with the other neighbors who have said that they want to fight this AXIS development and keep the zoning exactly how it is right now. I would also like to hear your safety concerns so they can be included in our (hopefully) final argument.
But we are not the only people affected here, this needs to be a group effort and everyone’s opinion is extremely important.
